The Throat

Throat Reconstruction

Patient with previously failed throat reconstruction. Saliva leaks onto neck through opening at base of tongue.

Segment of small bowel isolated on the vessels which supply it. (The green towels cover the opening into the abdomen).

The bowel vessels are shown reconnected to vessels in the neck.

The patient after surgery. There is no longer any leak of saliva.

Barium swallow xray shows normal flow of contrast from the new throat into the esophagus.
